Tree & Shrub Pruning
ISA certified arborists in Kamloops understand how trees and shrubs will respond to pruning. Pruning can be performed throughout the year, though timing depends on the species of the tree or shrub.
Cabling/Bracing
Cabling or bracing are used when a tree's structure has been damaged (split trunk) due to accidental or natural causes (e.g. storms). The installation of threaded, steel-rod braces and/or high-strength cables restores the integrity of the tree to allow it to heal itself, and it protects the tree against future damage.
Canopy Pruning
Crown cleaning and thinning are the more popular plant maintenance options. The purpose of tree pruning is to remove dead, dying, diseased, crowded, weakly attached, low-vigour branches and water sprouts from the tree’s canopy.
Canopy Raising
This involves the removal of the lower branches of a tree to allow clearance for pedestrians (sidewalk), permanent structures (shed/decks/house), and vehicles (driveway), or maintain an existing view.
Crown Thinning and Restoration
This process requires removing branches to increase light and air penetration/circulation throughout the canopy. Thinning opens the foliage (canopy) of a tree, reduces weight on heavy limbs, and maintains the tree’s natural shape.
Crown Reduction (Not Topping)
Thinning or heading back branches reduces tree height and/or spread of the tree canopy by pruning back leaders to lateral branches. With all trees, except for fruit trees, this is only done as a last resort instead of complete removal.
Hedging or Shearing
A service offered for hedges and other dwarf evergreens where a formal, compact appearance is required. For best results, it should be started early in the life of the tree or hedge and repeated at least once per season for hedges.
Structural Pruning
This process improves the overall appearance and maintains space between other trees, buildings and power lines.
